Flying to foreign countries are always thrilling and exciting, not to mention staying for couple of months. This is the first time we have stayed outside of our hometown (Hong Kong) for so long and it was a life-changing experience for us. It’s crazy how fast time flies and how things progress, our three-month internship at Jublia has come to an end, and we would like to thank everyone in the business development team because you guys have inspired us and made us a better person.
When we first step into the office at 9:30am in day one, we were so nervous since we just knew that we were going to have a morning meeting with the BD team with nothing prepared. We were given a number of tasks and were quite anxious about our capability. Looking back, we really had nothing to worry about because the BD team is amazingly supportive.
People here at Jublia are helpful and caring. No matter how busy they were, they would help us instantly when we had questions (I’m serious, they never said “give me a second” kind of thing). We learnt so fast from 0%, and we started to take ownership of our work and were given more responsibilities. Unlike the typical type of internship with paperworks and robotic tasks 24/7, we decided what we want to learn and achieve.
All in all, we truthfully felt that the team had treated us as “brothers in arms” constantly moving towards Jublia’s mission, instead of being just another intern at the company.
It’s a special experience for me as it’s the first time I worked in a start-up company in a co-working space. Everything was so flexible, simply you can do whatever you want. I got some lazy moment of watching YouTube the whole morning because I got a bad headache and I couldn’t focus on my work. But it actually gave my brain some breathing room and I reenergized very soon.
Moreover, one of my favorite place to work was on the SOFA. It’s a decent place to gain motivation and inspiration as I could see all the people working very hard all the time (p.s. I’m lying on the sofa right now to type this blog, so chill). In terms of working experience, back to the days I worked in Hong Kong, I was so passive to raise questions or express ideas as I was regarded a “small potato” in the company.
In comparison, everything in Jublia is decentralized and we work as a team. I would like to thank Errol, Ryan and Daryl, and Aidan especially, you guys guided me throughout the entire internship and gave me the trust to do real stuff rather than supportive tasks. I was so involved into the team as they always asked for my opinions and treat them seriously. I gained much satisfaction when my effort was paying off, and I believe it’s because I found a place to shine and make things brilliant.
Jublia has given me a mind-blowing impression of how working could possibly be. Never had I thought that working could be so flexible, it was all up to us how we wanted to spend our time on. Given such degree of freedom and trust, self-monitoring was of utmost importance. Self-discipline and enthusiasm were the cornerstone of how Jublia was built, everyone was focusing on their works relentlessly for the sake of the company. I believe this is what happens when a group of passionate and energetic people form a company.
I have learnt a lot from Jublia in this short period of time. Our BD team consists of people from various backgrounds and ages. Crammed with tremendous workloads, they would still willing to spare some time to answer our questions. I really appreciate the help and advices they have given to us. Especially from Errol our COO, he was our supervisor for the internship. Throughout the whole internship period, he guided our ways to progress. Apart from the practical skills, attitude towards life, passion for work and the leadership spirit are what I learned by observing by his living example.
The greatest lesson I have learned through this internship was to find your passion and spend effort on it. Until you spend time and effort on it, a dream will always be a dream.
All in all, it’s hard to tell everything in a short post, but we really appreciate the memories that Jublia has given us. Last but not least, good luck to everyone in Jublia. We believe your success will be greater than ever, we’ll see you soon!
